Why Breakfast should not be Missed


There are lots and lots of people who skip the crucial and first meal of the day telling a variety of reasons. This, despite the fact that experts on health trying their best to make people understand the importance of breakfast. A warm breakfast helps manage excess hunger right through the day.  While sleeping, we technically fast overnight.  Abstaining from breakfast adds to this fasting time and may upset insulin output and blood sugar balance.

Missing breakfast also causes bad eating habits during the day. This happens due to hunger that develops which leads to eating instant fast foods frequently. When you have breakfast, it increases metabolism and your energy levels all through the day. At the same time, if you skip it, your physical activity levels comes down and energy is reduced. Twenty-five per cent of the nutrients and total energy requirement of the body is provided by a perfect and healthy breakfast.
Preferably, the initial food of the day must consist of a just the right mixture of fibre, protein and carbohydrates.  You should also ensure that you have berries, whole grains and fruits. Sprouts, upma with a milkshake, vegetable pohe, and milk with cornflakes, dosa with chutney, soft and light idlis with sambhar can all be a good selection for breakfast. You can also have high fibre fruits like watermelons, oranges, muskmelons, papayas and apples.

However, juices only, bakery items like pastries, cakes, junk or leftover food, preserved meat, oily or deep fried food as well as processed food should all be avoided for breakfast. Also, for breakfast keep away from refined foods like white bread and white rice. As an alternative, cereals and whole wheat bread will be better.  Some more items to keep away from your breakfast menu are sodas, candy bars, potato chips, cookies, doughnut, samosas, puris and fried pakodas.
